MLB players take out frustrations on tough Servend Gatorade® dispenser
June 19th, 2009
MANITOWOC, Wis – How do you know a beverage dispenser is Major League Baseball tough? When it survives the tag-team wrecking crew of Zambrano-Dempster.
In May, Chicago Cubs pitchers Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster, on separate occasions, just days apart from each other, took their game-day frustrations out on the closest thing available… the Gatorade® dispenser. Not just any beverage dispenser, this particular model, the CEVj-30, is manufactured by Servend, a Manitowoc Foodservice company.
The apparently destruction-proof dispenser survived Dempster’s left-handed punch, knocking just the cover off and leaving only a few bumps and bruises. Then, just two days later, it made it through Zimbrano’s more violent baseball bat attack – but, ultimately, no worse for the wear.
“That Gatorade thing keeps taking a beating,” said Reed Johnson, center fielder for the Cubs, “we’ll get some band-aids on it tomorrow.
For the protection of their now-famous Gatorade dispenser, the Cubs have recently decided to remove it from all “vulnerable” areas.
